New MSU Extension Director Envisions Bringing Together People And Resources

Michigan State University Extension has a new District Nine Coordinator covering the Great Lakes Bay Region.

Mark Rankin sees his role as bringing together people and resources by serving businesses, families, communities and children.

That includes an extensive Four-H program.

Rankin also wants to try to make a dent in the on-going opioid crisis by coordinating efforts involving law enforcement, health organizations and hospitals.

His extensive educational background includes work as a teacher , principal, curriculum director and Superintendent at the K-12 level for various districts over the last 25 years.

Rankin has also been Dean of Education at Baker College and a turn around specialist for failing schools.

He spoke after being introduced to Bay County officials Tuesday.
