More Fishing Options Being Sought In Bay County

Efforts to improve recreational fishing opportunities in Bay County are moving ahead. That followed approval Tuesday by the County Board of Commissioners of a plan to pursue grant money for a feasibility study to establish a shored based fishing site.

County Executive Jim Barcia says the most likely possibility involves a pier pushing out into the Saginaw Bay from the Bay City State Recreation Area in Bangor Township.

Barcia emphasized no County money will be requested or utilized for a local match, but assistance would be sought from sources like the Bay Area Community Foundation.

Bay County is already the recipient of a nearly $1,000,000 federal grant to develop a rock reef for fish spawning habitat which should be available next year.
