Bay County 911 Upgrading Its Capabilities

Bay County 911 will be able to handle text messages as early as this fall after the County Board of Commissioners approved proceeding with the plan Tuesday. Board Chairman Tom Herek says it will be a great advance for people who may not be able to speak during an emergency like a home invasion or who are otherwise deaf, hard of hearing or who have limited speech capabilities.

Herek added there won’t be a need to purchase any equipment or software as 911 will work with providers including the Peninsula Fiber Network and INdigital on the upgrades.
