Pat Johnston serves as The Morning Team's Sports guy, weekdays on WSGW. He also produces some of the content heard on 100.5FM, serves as The Listen to the Mrs. phone screener, and hosts WSGW's First Day with Pat Johnston on Sundays from 6-9am.
Pat has much to say, and the microphone alone isn't enough. Now, Pat has a blog called Out In Left Field with Pat Johnston. The title pretty much gives away Pat's main interests in life: Sports, Politics (with a tilt toward the Left) and Pop Culture.
Pat posts stories he's come across and provides some his witty commentary as well.

Following in the NFL’s and NHL’s move to make their sports safer, Major League Baseball is cracking-down on violent collisions at home plate. CBS Sports: In a press conference with MLB executive vice president of baseball operations and Mets general manager Sandy Alderson, Major League Baseball announced that it has approved a ban on home-plate […]
I am baffled by the Republican-led Michigan Legislature’s move to ban private insurers from providing abortion coverage, which still remains a constitutional right. As the push to make this measure a law proceeded through the legislature, I seriously–but foolishly–believed Republicans would not even dare pass it with the 2014 elections less than 11 months away. […]
Back with another “90′s Music Nostalgia Break” on this Tuesday, December 10, 2013. I have no idea why–seriously I don’t–but I suddenly had Latour’s “People Are Still Having Sex” stuck in my brain last weekend. It wasn’t a good song, yet for some reason you kept listening until the very end. Maybe you thought there […]
Due to some technical difficulties, I’m unable to post my WSGW First Day cohort Hilary Farrell’s “Monday Music Minute” clip this week. I accidentally lost about 80% of our last Sunday show, including Hilary’s “Song of the Week” segment. I’m sorry, Hils! Although, don’t blame me. Blame the Adobe program for crashing on me while […]
Head Coach Urban Meyer of Ohio State doesn’t have many fans outside Ohio and Florida. I think it’s because of how he tries to play the “awe shucks” kind of character, while his actions speak otherwise. Meyer refused to throw a starting offensive lineman off-the-team for flashing the double-bird to the Big House crowd after […]
As protests for liveable wages in the fast food industry spread across the country on Thursday, I ran across this post from a friend of mine of The Facebook. I’d like to share it with you first before I offer my response: I’m sorry. But if you have an entry level job, how can you […]
So much has been said and written about life–and-death–of former South African President Nelson Mandela that anything I say will severely pale in comparison. As a devoted and dedicated sports fan, I wanted to share this :50 YouTube clip. Mandela understood the how the power of sport can bring people together who may not have […]

Pat’s Perfect NFL Picks–Week 14 Edition ******************************************************************* Itâs 6:44am on WSGWâs First Day, and that can only mean one thing. That’s right, it’s time for the most prestigious two-and-a-half minutes in […]
A judge says Detroit is eligible for Chapter 9 Bankruptcy, and that the city’s Emergency Manager can go after pensions in an effort to pay-off debt. Susan Tompor from The Detroit Free Press talked with a few of those who might get their hard-earned pensions slashed: âIt makes me sick,â said Wallace, who is single […]
Our national educational system has problems, and many of my conservative friends love to blame “thug” union teachers for those problems. But MLive.com columnist Susan Demas reminds us that teachers are with their students for 7-8 hours a day. It’s the other 16 hours in a day that the parents are the key to a […]
