Midland County Man Charged After 4-Hour Standoff

A Midland County man is charged with Possession of a Firearm While Intoxicated after a 4-hour standoff with law enforcement personnel Monday. The Midland County Sheriff’s office said deputies responded to a call reporting a distraught man with a rifle shortly before 11:30 a.m., at a home in the 2400 block of Magrudder Rd. in Geneva Township. Deputies were told the man had been drinking, was upset after an argument with his wife and had threatened suicide. The man had also threatened to shoot any officers who came to the scene.

As police arrived, the man sat on a chair in the middle of Magrudder Rf. while holding a rifle. Several Police agencies assisted during the incident, setting up a safe perimeter around the house. The Midland City Police SWAT Team was on scene, along with a Michigan State Police armored vehicle. The suspect surrendered without incident about 3:15 p.m.  No injuries were reported.
