Saginaw School District Plans Suit Against City

The Saginaw school district will sue the city of Saginaw and possibly other entities in order to block construction and operation of a proposed halfway house for federal prisoners. School officials say the location of the facility at Norman Street and Leon Scott, just 750 feet from the district's Arthur Eddy Academy would pose a major safety risk. The school board believes approval of the halfway house was done in violation of the city's zoning ordinance and possibly state law.

A resolution passed at the end of last night's school board meeting says the halfway house project is harmful to the interests of the school district, its students and that northeast Saginaw neighborhood.
